Historic Garden Build

One of our more historic garden builds whereby our Creative Director, Ed Henson, worked in conjunction with the renowned garden designer, Fiona Lawrenson.

An extensive overhaul of the existing grounds, this build was constructed in three phases over a period of three years. A careful plan was implemented over this time frame to allow the design to organically grow into the garden our client dreamt of.

Brickwork and Garden Walls

Within a walled garden and ensuring we balanced the design with two large rare Indian Bean trees, we have been able to zone the areas to create a large New York Stoned Terrace with a retaining wall at the rear of the property. This formally overlooks the internal surrounds of their period walled garden.

We created a new paddock space ensuring its boundary was clearly defined with a selection of native trees.

New Driveway

Extensive planting and a new front driveway ensured that this garden design was both functional and formal meeting the exact needs of our client and the historic surroundings.

Maintaining The Landscape

When our maintenance team took over, they put together an action plan to increase the standard of the garden and bring it in line with the client’s expectations. There was a focus on the lawns and apple trees that stand within.

The well-aged apple trees were pruned, and moss and selective weed killer treatments were given to the lawn which has improved the quality and the appearance greatly.

Due to the location of the lawn and the surrounding environment, there was quite a lot of thatch. We therefore have aerated and scarified, followed by top-dressing and seeding.

Planning For The Future

Once we had dealt with the existing garden, we put forward a plan with the existing flower beds and did a lot of seasonal planting. This increased the interest and colour, out to the rear of the house. At the front of the property there is a formal garden with a lot of topiary in.

We have consistently treated these for bugs – the result is a very impressive box border around an onion.
